Stumbled into かなさんや～ in Chatan and left with a huge grin. The food? Solid Okinawan eats that hit the spot. The vibe? Cozy and buzzing, like a local hangout should be. But the real magic was the oniisan strumming his jamisen and singing Okinawan folk songs. He belted out ‘Shima Uta’ with soul, then got everyone in on the fun—starting with a rousing ‘Iya sasa! Hai ya!’ chant that had the whole place shouting back. After a hearty ‘Karii!’ toast, he taught us a simple Kachaashii dance, pulling us all into a big circle around the tables, circling them to his lively tunes.
