If you are heading toward the iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, make sure to keep an eye out for まる蛸 (Marutako). It was a completely unplanned stop for us, but it ended up being one of the highlights of our walk. A Pleasant Surprise We stumbled upon this spot on our way to the forest, and it turned out to be the perfect "pleasant surprise." It’s the kind of local find that makes exploring Japan so rewarding. Delicious Takoyaki The food was, of course, the main event. The Taste: The takoyaki was excellent—perfectly crisp on the outside and wonderfully soft and savory on the inside. Authenticity: You can tell they take pride in the preparation; it’s a significant step up from the standard street food stalls you might find in busier tourist hubs. Great Ambiance What really sets まる蛸 apart, however, is the great ambiance. The Atmosphere: The restaurant has a welcoming, cozy feel that provides a nice escape from the bustling crowds of Arashiyama. The Vibe: It strikes a perfect balance between a casual snack spot and a place where you actually want to sit, relax, and soak in the local environment.
