My name is Victor Alonso Boshuizen and I live in Southern New Jersey (15 minutes away from Philadelphia) in United States. I flew to Japan on November and had the incredible opportunity to visit Morugumi Shop & Cafe and even met with the owner... Let me start by saying just how charming this experience was:
Not only the space is cozy and perfect for a brunch over a great cup of tea reading your favorite book, but you can be in the company of the most beautiful, furry little creatures in the world. I'm referring to #GuineaPigs!
The store's spirit is to provide a place is all-about cavies, their owners and the experience it is to be a parent to one of these little guys.
I myself am the proud dad to 5 beautiful boys! My trip to Japan was the first time I was not going to be at home with my children and inevitably I felt very homesick because I missed them... Coming to this Cafe was like a jolt of love and happiness for me. I shared photos of my boys and video. I watched the owner's pride and joy with her two cavies and shopped for goodies are by Guinea Pigs-ONLY.
Affordable, fun and cozy. That's how I can summarize my visit. If you are visiting Tokyo and want to set a location to arrive to, then I highly recommend you select Morugumi and give a shot at exploring the city the way it's meant to be.
You will walk through charming little streets filled with shops and such friendly people greet you as though you are a long-time friend. The smell of freshly baked bread fills the air as you cross the train tracks... You watch as children head to school and the whole scene reminds you of the most amazing, romantic movie of all times. At the corner of amazing and trendy you find the park has been painstakingly landscaped with flowers of the season, there you look up and see a big, friendly Guinea Pig welcoming you to Morugumi...
... The rest is an experience entices all your senses.
If you want to see all the gorgeous gifts sold at the Shop, I suggest you start with the little hat costumes you can gently put on your own cavy (I personally picked the little squid one for my boys!). Enjoy a lovely conversation with a staff speaks English fluently and let them narrate the history and reason for the shop.
If you are lucky, you'll be visiting a special day:
The owner invites other Guinea Pig owners to come to the shop with their little babies for a Meet & Greet. You know cavies are communal type of animals, this is an opportunity for them to make new friends as well as their owners.
Truthfully a brilliant way to help you find new friends and experience Tokyo.
I only wish I could give this charming store 6 of 5 Stars, they deserve it!
From the United States, I hope you enjoyed this review and get to visit Morugumi very soon... For the love of #GuineaPigs around the World.
