Hokuto, led by Watanabe-san from Hokkaido who is also the chef owner of Watanabeya and Hamataki, is a kushikatsu specialist in Kowloon City. Visited during lunch time to try out their Omakase menu with sashimi, deep-fried skewers and a main dish at your choice. ウニ豆腐、イクラ、蟹肉 Uni Tofu w/ Ikura & Crab Mrat 鯛スープ Sea Bream Broth 縞鯵 Shimaaji 白ミル貝 Geoduck 兵庫 真牡蠣 Pacific Oyster, Hyogo 炙りトロ Seared Toro The course started with various types of sashimi and a pot of boiling hot soup. My favorites included fatty shimaaji belly and crunchy geoduck in ponzu. 山芋 Japanese Yam 子持ち昆布 桜えび Fish Roe w/ Kombu & Sakura Ebi イカウニ巻 Squid Uni Roll アワビ Abalone Kushikatsu, as their signature, was impressive with an exceptionally thin and crispy batter. All served piping hot. The abalone, a standout, had first been slow-cooked then deep-fried, and the flavors of the sauce had soaked into the abalone. ロブスター•焼き和牛 Lobster/Wagyu お茶漬け Ochazuke メロン Melon Lobster coated in mayo was savory, while the marbled wagyu with garlic had some chew in it. Ochazuke came in big portion. Finished the scrumptious meal with some sweet and juicy melon. The chef who served us was friendly and paid attention to detail. Watanabe-san also shared his experience with us during the meal. Overall good value. Highly recommending the kushikatsu!
