Atarayo is aptly named…The word in Japanese is used to describe a night so enchanting that one wishes it would never end. Located on Second Street in Sai Ying Pun, Atarayo is a perfect local Japanese izakaya with a warm and friendly all-Japanese staff. It’s so authentic that within its four walls, you forget that you’re in Hong Kong. Owner/Manager Ken san is welcoming and makes guests feel comfortable with his interesting conversation and solid recommendations from a wide selection of sake, shochu and Japanese wine. Chef Taka san is super talented, creating a wide variety of masterfully prepared and truly delicious dishes including hearty hotpots, perfectly cooked tempura and authentic regional delicacies. Every dish is so outstanding that it’s hard to pick a favourite. And Oda san works in the background making sure that everything runs smoothly. The cozy atmosphere, great service and amazing food from an ingredients based menu that changes every couple of weeks means you keep wanting to go back for more…Outstanding.
