日本人経営の洋食屋さんで、オーナー自ら料理を作り、妥協のない味で大満足。その上全てのスタッフが日本人なので、何の不安もない。. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you wander deep enough into Taipei’s Zhongshan District, away from the sterile, neon glow of the mega-malls, you will find yourself in the Tiao-tong—a dense, labyrinthine grid of narrow alleys that feel less like modern Taiwan and more like a mid-century Shinjuku fever dream. It’s a neighborhood built on the shadows of the night, packed with hostess bars, neon signs reflecting off wet asphalt, and discreet, heavy wooden doors. Behind one of those doors sits 喜 (Xi). It’s an intimate, fiercely protective little sanctuary that bridges two culinary worlds with zero apology: the comfort of Japanese Yofuku (Western-style Japanese cuisine) and the late-night, liquid-fueled camaraderie of a Tokyo bistro. Walk inside, and the energy changes immediately. The air is warm, the lighting is low and forgiving, and the space is tight—just a few coveted seats around a bar where the chefs and staff drift effortlessly between Japanese and Mandarin. This isn't a joint for the casual tourist looking to take selfies for the grid. In fact, they have a strict no-photo policy inside. In our hyper-connected, validation-obsessed world, there is something deeply honorable—and incredibly badass—about a place that demands you put the phone away, look at the person across from you, and just eat the food. You are here to be present, to drink, and to let the city melt away outside. The menu is a love letter to Japanese-Western nostalgia, executed with a level of precision that only someone obsessed with craft can pull off. You start with the croquettes—golden, shatteringly crisp orbs on the outside, yielding to a rich, molten interior that immediately coats your tongue. Then you move on to the Lengua (ox tongue), a cut of meat that separates the amateurs from the professionals. Here, it is treated with absolute reverence: braised until it is practically structural integrity-free, tender enough to cut with a spoon, and singing with a deep, dark, savory reduction that begs for a heavy pour of red wine. It’s rich, unapologetic cooking designed to pair with alcohol. The staff glide through the room, anticipating your next drink before you even know you're thirsty. If you are a regular, you are treated like royalty. If you are a stranger, you might feel a flicker of that icy, insular Japanese hospitality at first—but give it time. Order another drink, show some respect for the plate, and the room opens up to you. Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
