We discovered 大木屋 (Da Mu Wu) Japanese restaurant in Taipei's Shilin district after a performance at the nearby Traditional Theatre Centre. This Japanese restaurant with a strong Taiwanese accent offers a fascinating blend of flavors. While the sashimi was a highlight, the grilled squid and fish were decent but didn't exceed expectations. The free-flow soup self-service was a nice touch, though the dining space was somewhat cramped. The restaurant's popularity among locals and theatre-goers (who receive a 5% discount) is undeniable. The owner's fondness for owls is also on display, with a charming collection of owl sculptures throughout the restaurant.
