I had an excellent visit to Big Sweet House (大街小館) in Wong Tai Sin. The eatery had comfortable seating that wasn’t too crowded, and the service was fine — quick and friendly. The star of my meal was the Coconut King Egg White Stewed Peach Gum (椰皇蛋白燉桃膠), served hot in a fresh coconut shell for $55. This Cantonese dessert was really good. The egg white was marvelous — boasting a feather-light, silky-smooth, and airy texture reminiscent of the finest custard, with a delicate sweetness that perfectly complemented the subtle coconut fragrance. It dissolved ethereally on the tongue, creating a luxurious mouthfeel. The accompanying elements were also fine, with translucent peach gum providing a satisfying chewy bite and sago pearls adding gentle pops of texture in the rich, fragrant coconut milk broth. What's more, the inner flesh of the coconut was unexpectedly good — tender, succulent, and brimming with authentic fresh coconut flavor that infused the whole dish with tropical depth. This harmonious medley of velvety creaminess, bouncy textures, and natural sweetness made for a truly appetizing and comforting experience.
