There's absolutely no mistaking the authenticity of this gelato – the proprietor dedicated a year in Bologna and Milano to studying the art of Italy's famed gelato and has honed the specialized skill to perfection for the benefit of Taipei. Note that they are only offering natural handmade gelato which is much healthier and safer than the fast freeze offerings at 7-11 and Family Mart that are typically loaded with a list of unhealthy chemicals and more sugar and fat. Here are pure, natural ingredients, brought together into an alchemy for the taste buds in flavours that reflect a seasonal variety of fruits plus Italian classics, and some very creative twists for local tastes. As mentioned, real gelato is substantially lower in sugar and fat content than typical ice cream. Gelato is churned at a much slower rate yielding a creamier, denser product with exquisite mouth feel, and less energy is required in the production and storage. Le Petit Baron's pricing is surprisingly fairer than a multitude of places in Taipei claiming to offer true gelato, but with very often inflated prices and almost universally far less authenticity to their product. This is the way to go. An exquisite dessert parlour. 5 stars for the review, but in truth, for Taipei, this gelato deserves 6 stars!
