We had the pleasure of having lunch here to celebrate a dear friend's son's hundredth day — a joyous occasion that deserved, and duly received, a setting worthy of it. The menu is rooted firmly in the Cantonese tradition, yet there is a quiet inventiveness at work that elevates each dish beyond the familiar. One senses a kitchen that respects its heritage but refuses to be imprisoned by it. The steamed fish was, to my mind, the standout — pristine in its freshness, delicate in its seasoning, and finished with a deftness of hand that allowed the natural sweetness of the flesh to sing. The sweet and sour pork, so often a casualty of laziness elsewhere, was here rendered with real conviction: a shatteringly crisp exterior giving way to tender, well-seasoned meat, the sauce bright and balanced rather than drowned in the usual lurid syrup. These are dishes prepared not merely with skill, but with genuine devotion — and one can taste the difference. A word, too, must be reserved for the desserts, which were nothing short of magnificent. The mango pudding, in particular, deserves a paragraph of its own. Intensely flavourful, luxuriously smooth, and yet — crucially — never cloyingly sweet, it struck that elusive balance between indulgence and restraint that so many attempt and so few achieve. I would return for this alone. What lingers most, however, is something beyond the food. I had the good fortune of chatting briefly with the owner, and it was heartwarming to learn that this is very much a husband-and-wife affair — and that the restaurant's name itself has its origins in their Christian faith. It is a small detail, but a telling one. It speaks to something sincere and personal at the heart of this place, and one feels it — in the warmth of the hospitality, in the evident pride taken in every dish, and in the quiet sense that this is a labour not merely of profession, but of love.
