We ducked into 木珍園 pretty much at random – it was drizzling when we got off the bus, and this was the first restaurant we followed the crowd into. Turned out to be a great decision. We ordered 刈菜雞 (NT$450), 地瓜葉 (NT$100), 白飯 (NT$10) and a 咖啡 (NT$90) to share. The coffee arrived chilled, which was a bit of a surprise. It wasn’t hot or even lukewarm – more like it had cooled down naturally in the cold weather before being served – but we were actually fine with it. The white rice was self-service, so I’m not entirely sure how they calculate it, but the price for rice was low, which was nice. I’m not usually a fan of potato leaves, but the 地瓜葉 here was really good. Simply stir-fried with garlic, but very flavourful, and you could tell the vegetables were fresh. Based on the Google reviews and the chilly weather, we chose the 刈菜雞 soup, and the portion was huge. With one big soup, one vegetable dish, one portion of rice and a coffee to share, we left absolutely stuffed – almost bursting. Service was a little slow at the start, but to be fair, it was quite crowded. There was a big table that had ordered many dishes and were chasing the staff for their remaining items, and things got a bit tense for a moment, but it all worked out in the end. Overall, it was a very comforting, homey meal on a cold, wet afternoon, and I’m glad we wandered in. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $200–400 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
