food: ordinary. we've ordered the miso x cabbage as an appetiser, and it only came after we've finished 3 glasses of sake. their "famous" braised pig's intestines? not impressive. actually so did the grilled fish roe (mentaiko) and deep-fried potato croquettes. we didn't bother to try other dishes and had decided to move to another dining place.
service: they say here you'd find home/old friend-style service. yes, but NOT to new diners like us. the manager/owner kept chatting with the regulars of the next table, even bringing the shop cat to them. but no, he didn't even look at us, not to mention coming over to ask if we are ok with the food.
an "authentic" japanese resto that doesn't even provide hand towels? i should've trusted my instinct and just left right away without wasting my money for a boring meal.
