After living overseas for several years, one of the foods I missed the most was authentic Teochew braised goose. Living in Canada, goose is not something you can easily find, so every time I return to Hong Kong, enjoying a proper braised goose meal becomes one of my priorities. More than the goose itself, I deeply missed that rich, aromatic braising sauce, as well as classic Teochew delicacies like braised pork intestines. Sang Kee in Hunghom has always been my go-to place, and I'm happy to say that the flavour remains as wonderful as I remember. The braising sauce is rich, fragrant, and incredibly satisfying. One bite instantly brought back memories of home. The only thing that disappointed me this time was the noticeably smaller portion size. I understand that inflation, rising ingredient costs, and the challenging economic environment have made it difficult for many restaurants. Rather than increasing prices, reducing portion sizes may have been the only practical option. It is a little bittersweet because shrinkflation has become increasingly common, and in many ways it reflects the current economic reality in Hong Kong. Despite that, I'm grateful that Sun Kee has stayed true to its traditional flavours. I'd much rather enjoy authentic Teochew lo mei with slightly smaller portions than see the quality compromised. I sincerely hope they continue serving this taste of home for many years to come. Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2
