If you’re wandering around the lively streets near Hongdae and feeling a bit adventurous, I’ve got just the place for you: a super small local eatery serving sundae-guk, one of Korea’s most comforting (and underrated) dishes. Now, fair warning—this place is tiny. The kitchen and dining area are all in one open space, so you’ll literally see your food being made a few feet away. It’s not your usual restaurant setup, and definitely not fancy. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. So why did I give it five stars? The food was amazing. The soup came out piping hot, full of flavor, and the portion size was huge. You could tell the owner really cares about what they serve. It felt homemade—in the best possible way. I’m already planning to go back. Wait, what’s sundae-guk? It’s a hearty Korean soup made with sundae, a type of sausage made from pig intestines stuffed with noodles and other goodies. It also comes with tender slices of pork and other parts (yes, like liver or lung) in a savory, peppery broth. Sounds intense? Maybe a little—but it’s warm, filling, and super popular with locals.
