Gungjeon Hoegwan is a true local hidden gem near 4.19 Minju Memorial Station. I visited on a weekday evening and it was almost full, which says a lot about its reputation. The kimchi jjigae (₩10,000) had a strong, well-aged kimchi flavor with balanced sourness, moderate spice, and slight sweetness. Large pork chunks, tofu, and green onion created a rich and comforting flavor. If you enjoy properly fermented kimchi, this is an excellent choice. The restaurant feels like an old Korean family dining room—fish tanks, old photos, calendars, certificates on the walls, and a calm TV instead of music. Very local and warm. Water, rice, and side dishes are mostly self-service. The stone pot rice with nurungji adds extra value. No English menu, so ordering may be slightly challenging for tourists.
