까망돼지 or The Black Pig in English reminds me of the kind of cheap but good local Korean BBQ place I used to eat at all the time with friends new and old when I first got to Daegu over 10 years ago - basic, none of the frills, but great side dishes, lots of freebies thrown in above what you order, and I love that we do the meat grilling on a kama-sot lid (the top of one of the big ol' giant soup pots people would have used to make a day's or family's worth of soup. Classic ssamgyeopsal ("3 layer meat" or basically uncured pork belly strips for anyone less familiar with KBBQ) is available as hubby Jagueeya prefers but this time we got O-gyeopssal, FIVE layer meat, which I found extra chewy which is apparently the selling point, but my fave as always was the kimchi jjiggae/stew and veggie side dishes. Reasonable price, simple yet tasty, classic rough around the edges Ajumma shopkeep and open to the elements so the smoke and covid 19 germies can blow away, a lovely place for a simple yet satisfyong classic Korean meal. Love to have a friendly neighbourhood Korean Black Pig great to be back in Korea again.
