Kkotdwaeji Restaurant We headed to Kkotdwaeji Restaurant right after checking into our hotel. I’d picked it out while planning our trip and was really looking forward to it. When we walked over we saw lots of other busy places that looked tempting. I reminded Donkey’s we’d planned this stop though, so we kept going, and I’m so glad we did. The place is big but every table was taken when we arrived. We had to wait a bit but the atmosphere was so lively you could tell it was a popular spot. Just know it gets really crowded, and the barbecue smoke sticks to your clothes and hair for a while after you leave. The staff don’t speak English but they’re so patient and helpful. They brought us an English menu once they realized we weren’t from around here. We tried their Aged Pork Belly first, it had great flavour, and a cool texture that was soft but chewy. The Grilled Beef Tripe was excellent too. We liked everything so much we ordered a full set menu after that. They don’t have Makgeolli here, so we got Chungha rice wine instead. It was stronger than we expected at 11% alcoholand we didn’t love the taste. Donkey also got an Original Highball, which was way more refreshing and paired better with the food. Every single dish was top quality. You can tell they use really good local ingredients that are better than most places serve. It was worth sticking to our plan instead of trying somewhere else on the way. If you want real Korean barbecue, this is the place to go. Upon checking into our hotel, we proceeded directly to Kkotdwaeji Restaurant, an establishment I had meticulously selected during the planning stages of our journey. Whilst walking to the venue, we encountered numerous other inviting restaurants that were equally bustling, and I must admit I was momentarily tempted to abandon our original itinerary. However, Kitty, having reviewed my travel plans, insisted that we remain committed to our initial choice. It was a decision for which I am now profoundly grateful. The restaurant is impressively large, yet it was operating at full capacity upon our arrival, necessitating a period on the waiting list. The atmosphere is remarkably vibrant and energetic, which certainly validates its strong Google reputation. One minor point for prospective diners to consider is that the establishment is incredibly crowded, and the aroma of the barbecue is quite pervasive, consequently, our clothing and hair retained the scent of the grill long after we had departed. The service we received was exemplary. Although there was a significant language barrier, as the staff did not speak English, they were incredibly patient and helpful. We initially relied on gestures, but the waitress, recognising that we were international visitors, thoughtfully provided an English menu. She recommended the Aged Pork Belly, which possessed a delightful savoury flavour and a unique, soft yet chewy texture, and the Grilled Beef Tripe, which was equally superb. Following these initial dishes, Kitty felt we required something more substantial, so we proceeded to order a full set menu. Regarding the beverage selection, I noted that the establishment does not serve Makgeolli. Consequently, we opted for Chungha, a clear Korean rice wine. I found the taste was not entirely to my preference, and with an alcohol content of 11%, it felt somewhat potent for the occasion. To remedy this, I also ordered an Original Highball, which proved to be a far more refreshing and suitable accompaniment to the rich flavours of the meal. Every dish was of superlative quality, prepared with domestic ingredients that clearly surpassed the standard fare. This experience serves as a testament to the value of a well researched plan and the reward of perseverance. I highly recommend this establishment for anyone seeking an authentic and high quality Korean barbecue experience. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
