We went to Rubato Wine for our last dinner in Seoul, primarily to experience pasta made with a Parmesan cheese wheel. The ambiance was cozy. The dish was absolutely delicious and flavorful. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The service was incredible and foreign friendly, if your Korean is limited. The wine pairing was also wonderful. Can’t wait to go back!

I had the great pleasure of dining at Rubato Wine in November 2023. Located in Mapo-gu, the restaurant is small but quaint and the atmosphere is romantic and intimate, set in a simply yet tastefully decorated space with a vintage feel. All dishes are carefully prepared using quality ingredients. The signature dish - the truffle pasta - is a must-try for first time visitors. While I have had truffle pasta many times before, I was impressed by how tasty and fragrant Rubato Wine’s version of this dish was. It is prepared in front of you, using only a few key ingredients: pasta, imported Grana Padano, black pepper, and most important of all - a generous serving of black truffle shavings. The ratatouille was very flavourful and perfectly seasoned; a combination of eggplant, zucchini and potatoes served in a rich and sweet tomato sauce, it can be enjoyed on its own or with slices of baguette. Interesting fact: the wurst (sausages) are handmade by the owner himself using a recipe perfected through trials and errors, and prepared without any fat or additives. Rubato Wine is the perfect place if you are looking for an elevated dining experience in Seoul. The owner is kind, attentive to all guests and very well-versed on the subject of wine. He is truly passionate about wine and will go above and beyond to ensure that he provides each guest with a delightful and memorable dining experience. Not only will he select the proper wines to pair with your meal, he will also take the time to explain/describe each bottle and advise on how to best enjoy them. I highly recommend this place for wine lovers and anyone seeking to learn more on the topic. Note: reservations only, various wine events (tasting, classes, etc) are also offered periodically.
