After a grueling morning walk on Hwaseong Fortress starting from Paldalmun Gate to King Jeongjo's Statue, I got really hungry and decided to take a short cut downhill from the back of Hwaseong Hanggung to get some lunch at Maehyang Chicken Restaurant. Got there after 12:30PM and there was some people waiting. But the young man waiter, who spoke very good English, got me a table for ONE very quickly. The simple menu of one main item, Tongdak (whole deep fried chicken), makes it easy to order with a big mug of beer. They brought out the whole chicken and the server cut it up to pieces with scissors in front of you. It even came with a few pieces of (of course deep fried) gizzards to nibble on. I totally enjoyed the chicken and beer but could only finish 3/4 of it. They do take foreign credit cards for payment, which is bonus. By the way, as I walked out towards Suwoncheon to walk off that lunch, I saw where they prepare and deep fry the chicken in front of the shop. I wished I didn't see all the flies buzzing around, some even landed on the raw chicken! Well, I just had to tell myself that everything got killed off with the hot oil in deep frying in order to get over that.
