Mokpo Sikdang, tucked away on Gonghang-daero 59da-gil in Gangseo-gu, is a humble local restaurant that surprises you with dishes far beyond what you’d expect from its simple exterior. It isn’t a place with a set gourmet menu — instead, the owner calls regulars when something truly special arrives. On my visit, I was lucky enough to be served two seasonal treasures: fresh nakji (live small octopus) and neungi wild mushrooms. The octopus was brought out alive, cleaned, and prepared right at the table — unbelievably fresh and full of flavor, with that perfect chewy texture only true seafood lovers appreciate. Then came the neungi chicken soup. The mushrooms were top-grade, priced at around 250,000 KRW per kilogram, and their deep earthy aroma infused every spoonful of the broth. The chicken was tender and clean-tasting, and the soup itself had a natural, comforting depth — no artificial seasonings, just time and care. The owner takes obvious pride in serving honest food, using only what’s best on that day. This is the kind of old-school Korean dining experience that still values trust and relationship over trendiness.
