I’d been sick with a cold for a few days, and suddenly I found myself craving seonji-guk. So I rushed over. I ordered the “special” without thinking, and it quietly arrived with two pieces of boiled pork on the side. Dipping them in salted shrimp and wrapping them in lettuce—there’s really no bigger kick than that. Absolutely excellent. The broth is honest and clean, the kind that tastes like it wasn’t drowned in MSG. Very good. The son and mother run the place together, and they told me they have no connection whatsoever to the restaurant in downtown Jinju that claims to be the “main branch.” Life isn’t always simple, but taking advantage of ordinary country folks who just make seonji-guk for a living isn’t something that needs complicated reasoning.
