If you like specialty coffee, this is a nice place to visit while you are in Gwangju. I tried Ethiopian Geisha Natural pour-over coffee and it was very nice. The barista prepared it with Hario V60 and was very professional. It had a nice variety of citrus flavours and clean after taste. I am looking forward to try other flavours next time. Price per person: ₩1–10,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you're a coffee nerd who is visiting Gwangju as a tourist, you really have to visit Bangasayu. I had some of the best pourovers of my life here, and it was near some of Gwangju's main tourist attractions, so it's really easy to make time for. From the outside, it's difficult to tell that it's a cafe and not an abandoned building. There are other more obvious coffee shops nearby, so it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The first thing you notice when you enter is an EG1 grinder (edit: I was wrong; it's from Ozik). The place has a fun vintage vibe with a collection of special alcohol bottles and fun coffee gear. I got two iced pourovers because I was there during a heat wave. One of them was a juicy one with wine and berry notes while the other was more tea-like with a shocking basil and lemongrass flavor. Neither were bitter. The desserts slapped too. My favorite was the berry ice cream sundae. After leaving, I saw the roasting equipment, and you could see that they carefully threw out lower quality beans and quakers in each batch. They clearly do what they can to improve the quality of their coffee. This was my favorite cafe I've ever been to, let alone my favorite among the 20 or so that I visited during my 2 week Korea/Taiwan vacation. Seriously, you can't afford to skip this if you're in the area and love specialty coffee. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
