안동국시로 유명한 소호정이에요. 안동국시는 자주 먹어봤어서 오늘은 국밥으로 주문했어요. 여기 국밥도 맛있어요. 고기 덩어리도 크게 들어있고, 콩나물 많아서 좋아요. 국물이 너무 맵지도 않으면서도 맛있게 잘 되어있어 좋아요. 기본 반찬으로 나오는 깻잎. 밥이랑 먹으면 진짜 맛있어요. This is 소호정, a restaurant famous for its Andong-style noodle soup. I’ve had their Andong noodles many times before, so today I decided to try the gukbap instead. The gukbap here is really delicious too. It comes with large chunks of meat, and I especially liked the generous amount of bean sprouts. The broth has a nice balance — it’s not overly spicy, but still full of rich flavor. The perilla leaves served as a basic side dish are amazing as well. They taste incredibly good when eaten together with the rice. Price per person: ₩10,000–20,000 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Since you are looking for food in Korea, you are likely familiar with Gukbap (rice in soup). While there are many styles, let me introduce you to a humble Sogogi Gukbap—a beef-based soup with plenty of bean sprouts and radish. This dish is common in South Gyeongsang Province (SGP). Now, that area isn’t necessarily the most famous for food; its regional rival, South Jeolla Province (SJP), usually gets all the respect. However, Gukbap is a different story. I’m not saying SGP’s version is definitely better, but it can certainly compete—which is quite a statement since SGP is usually considered far inferior in the culinary world! There are several famous types of Gukbap from SGP, but the specific version served here is surprisingly hard to find in restaurants, even though people cook it at home all the time. When I first visited, I was so pleasantly surprised and happy to find it. I was not disappointed. The taste and presentation are exactly what I’ve had for decades; this humble soup put me right back in my mother’s kitchen. I highly recommend it. The restaurant is clean with a bit of a high-end feel, though the service is average. As a side note: the original location famously provided its signature Kalguksu to the Blue House back when a president from SGP was in office.
