Asoto Bakery is a melonpan-focused café that stays open later than most bakeries in Korea, which is honestly its biggest plus. We arrived around 7 pm and were glad to find it still open. The exterior is cute with vintage touches, but nothing particularly memorable. Inside, the space is split between a takeaway/bakery counter and a small café area. There’s a wide variety of melonpan styles, classic, filled, cookie-style, danish, even salt bread melonpan, which sounds exciting on paper. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t really live up to the concept. Most of the pastries were overly sweet, especially the cream-filled melonpan, where the filling completely overpowered everything else. The cookie melonpan was dry and felt like it had been sitting out for a while. Looking around, many tables didn’t finish their pastries or drinks, which kind of confirmed our impression. The seating area is small and mostly two-person tables, which works well for turnover. There’s a small self-service water station with wipes, which is appreciated. The bathroom itself was clean, but the sink area has no door, so there’s very little privacy. Noise levels were quite high, with loud music and conversations, making it hard to talk comfortably. Staff were friendly but didn’t speak English, and the menu being mostly in Korean makes it harder for foreigners to navigate. Prices are reasonable, but the concept feels underdeveloped and not very creative. They also offer a free cookie for leaving a Google review, which may explain the high rating online. Overall, not a place I’d recommend or return to. Nice idea, but the quality and experience didn’t justify the hype. Price per person: ₩1–10,000 Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2
