A long awaited dream to have my first meal when arriving in Seoul, South Korea, to dine at the Crown Pig. Planned it in 2019 and waited 5 years. It was easy to get to from the airport. One bus, a nice ride, a simple walk. The staff are welcoming, the place lovely lit in warm yet bright hues. Spacious and cozy. You're met and greeted with such kindness. It transcended language, in my case a lack thereof. The menu was in both Korean and English. Servers were helpful. Side dishes aplenty and so delicious. It was super late when I arrived so I opted for stew and rice. Soy bean paste stew. It was warming and wonderfully spiced. Not too much. Just right for my mild palate. If I wanted to add spice there were amazing spiced cabbage salad that gave an added crunchy texture when placed into the stew. On it's own it was fire, in all the best ways. There were pickled peppers. Cold and refreshing and crunchy with a cute vinegar snap. The rice when added simply rounded out the entire experience as rice to me is home. I didn't even have the BBQ which I know the place is globally known for but this made all the difference for me. I'll have the BBQ the right way, with my friends who live here! Can't wait!
