I heard through the grapevine that Baek Jong-won didn’t open Hong Kong Banjeom, so I went in with pretty high expectations. But I guess when expectations are high, disappointments can be too? I was really looking forward to the texture of the spicy seafood noodles, but with the size and amount of the clams, I couldn’t really taste anything. I was super excited about the sweet and sour pork, but there was a slight meat smell and the overly thick rice flour batter made it feel a bit heavy, though it was still mild in flavor. I tried it with just soy sauce, just the sauce, and even a mix of both! Just a heads-up: watch out for the rude guys at the car center across the street and the tea or bar place next door who might get angry about your parking. Make sure to park in the alley! It was my first day in Jeju, and those locals really know how to kill the vibe. Be careful of parking bullies! Even if you apologize, they’ll still make a fuss.
