My wife and I love Makgeolli (Korean rice wine), and wanted to introduce Makgeolli to our friends visiting from the US. I made a reservation by messaging their Instagram account, and had a pleasant experience with the owner. **It is a pre-paid experience tour, so you will have to send the fee to a Korean bank. But, fear not. It is much easier to do so than you think. You can use international banking apps such as "Xoom" to set up payment method and follow the steps i.e. entering the Korean bank account number and recipient's name, choosing currency, etc. Once the money is sent, you and the recipient will get a confirmation notification briefly.** If you do book a reservation successfully, you can easily use Naver Map to find Haeil Makgeolli. Prior to booking a tour/experience, you can choose to either do tasting only or brewing experience with tasting. I chose the latter. If you decide to do the same, you will need to procure a pitcher that is minimum 1.8 L and has a sealable lid with the opening big enough to fit your hand through. This can be easily found at any Daiso (there is one nearby). You can also purchase cooling/thermal sealable bag to carry your pitcher while you travel. **if you brew the Makgeolli yourself, it needs a daily care up to 5 days, and cooling afterwards in the fridge. We did this at a hotel. Quite easy, but can be cumbersome if you are traveling. Then you may finish the brewing process and drinking as early as 6-7 days. My party decided to open and drink our Makgeolli after 10 days** You will be given English instructions after your experience. They do offer English tour/experience, but since I spoke Korean, the owner lady (Haeil) said she will try her hardest to give instructions in English (it was her first time offering the brewing/tour experience in English by herself). When it was our experience day, she taught herself using Google Gemini(AI) to prepare the whole tour in English! The most amazing part is that I only had to translate just 2 words for one of her jokes. Everyone in my group understood her instructions and explanations perfectly fine! After our tour, everyone kept talking about how great of a job she did for her first ever English tour without a translator. Just as amazed as we were for her English skills, we were pleasantly surprised by how fun this experience/tour was. We were constantly entertained and engaged. At the end of the tour, we got to try some of their Makgeolli, which were amazing. We were so thankful that none of us drove there, and were able to drink until our faces turned red! They have other Makgeolli you can purchase. We bought 4 different flavors and enjoyed them throughout our trip in Korea. If you are intrigued by Korean rice wine - Makgeolli - or would like to have a special moment with your significant other, friends, and family, I would recommend you to go out of your comfort zone and booking an experience at Haeil Makgeolli (해일막걸리)! Price per person: ₩40,000–50,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you want to learn about Korean drinking culture, this is the MUST VISIT place to go! 1. You can learn the history of Korean drinking culture 2. You can taste different flavors of Makgeolli (secret. My recommendation is lemon one) 3. You can experience to make Makgeolli with the instructor. The instructor gives a full of information of Makgeolli and after the class you can bring your own bottle of Makgeolli to home.
