After reaching Checkpoint 23, Kitty and I checked into Hongsi Hotel. Following check in, we took some time to rest and attend to maintenance on our bicycles before heading out for dinner. I had already identified this restaurant during my pre‑trip planning, based on excellent Google reviews recommending their tofu stew and grilled mackerel and we are pleased to confirm it fully lived up to its reputation. The venue itself is small, cosy and welcoming. A lovely personal touch was that the owner, a young, friendly, humble and very down to earth gentleman, came out to serve us himself throughout our meal. The food was outstanding. We were served a wonderful selection of side dishes, together with meat, and eggs were also included as part of the set. Kitty and I thoroughly enjoyed every element, particularly the flavoursome grilled mackerel and the rich, comforting tofu stew, both of which were prepared to a very high standard. It is worth mentioning that the portions are exceptionally generous. In fact, we found the serving of meat portion was slightly too substantial for just the two of us, though this only highlights how generous and value for‑money this establishment truly is. For anyone travelling or cycling through the area, this comes highly recommended, honest, delicious home cooked food, genuine hospitality and great value.
