About a month ago, my mother and I had lunch at A-One Signature @ Heartland Mall, and it was, unfortunately, a very unpleasant experience. We ordered the claypot beancurd with sea cucumber, frog meat with scallion and ginger, stir-fried long beans with minced meat, and drinks. The first dish served — about 10 minutes after ordering — was the long beans. To our surprise, it was cold, even though it was a stir-fried dish that should have been cooked and served hot. After just two bites, I felt something sharp against my gum and immediately spat it out — it appeared to be a trimmed fingernail-like object. I tried to get a server’s attention by waving for about five minutes before the cashier noticed me and came over. I informed him of the issue, and while he did politely offer to replace the dish, we declined, as we were still waiting for the other two dishes. What followed was an unacceptable 25-minute wait with no update, even as other diners who arrived after us had already been served. To make matters worse, the restaurant wasn’t even busy at the time. When I approached a server again to check on our order, there was still no clear explanation — the staff simply repeated that the “dishes are coming” and that they were “cooking now,” without offering any real clarification or urgency. When I later shared feedback about the foreign object, I was told it was “silverfish”, which didn’t make sense — the dish was cooked with minced meat, not silverfish. The explanation felt dismissive and unconvincing, which added to our disappointment. P.S. Even before the meal began, we waited about 5 minutes at the entrance before any staff noticed and brought us to a table. The inattentiveness at the front of house already left a poor first impression, which sadly reflected the rest of the experience. I sincerely hope the management will look into food hygiene and service standards.
