Today, I visited NEX and came across Aburi-EN's Father's Day special, "King of Meat." When I saw the King Buta Don piled high with grilled pork, I couldn't resist ordering it. As the bowl arrived at my table, I suddenly thought about my childhood. Back then, my family didn't have much money. Sometimes, a simple packet of Maggi noodles was enough for a meal. I was young and naive, and I honestly thought that maybe this was what my life would always be like eating instant noodles, getting by day by day, and living a very ordinary life. I never imagined that one day I would be living in Singapore. And I certainly never imagined that I would be sitting in a shopping mall, enjoying a bowl filled with delicious flame-grilled pork. Life is funny that way. Many things that once seemed impossible slowly become reality with time. The King Buta Don was delicious. The smoky aroma from the grilled pork was amazing, and every bite was satisfying. But what made me happiest wasn't the food itself. It was realizing how far I've come. The little boy who once worried about the future and thought instant noodles would be a lifelong companion has traveled much farther than he ever imagined. Life is still not perfect. Work can be exhausting. Some days are lonely. But today, I was able to sit down, enjoy a meal I truly wanted, and appreciate the journey that brought me here. Sometimes happiness isn't about having everything. Sometimes it's simply realizing that you've become the person your younger self would be proud of. Thank you, King Buta Don. And thank you to the younger version of me for never giving up. If you enjoy food stories and everyday life in Singapore, feel free to follow my Instagram @Johnnykuochung for more. The food and service here is excellent. We celebrated our mum’s birthday here and the service staff are very friendly and kind. They even help us prepare the plates for our birthday celebration and cake cutting. Kudos to the staff especially the service staff, Ms September. Thank you.
