Not up to Mandarin Oriental standards I took my girlfriend to Bencotto for her birthday dinner. I had asked them in advance to arrange a vegan set for myself, while my girlfriend went for the 4-course signature set menu. The food was generally ok (the signature set was good but the vegan set was quite poor and repetitive, and it was different from what was sent to us ahead of the meal), but the service was really below average, and definitely far from what one would expect from a major luxury chain like the Mandarin Oriental. For example, they forgot to clear the table in between courses more than once, our tea orders had not been recorded somehow so we had to repeat again, the initial welcome and introduction to the menu was done by a grumpy waitress who had clearly had a bad day, and it really felt that all the service staff were constantly running around in a rush which does not typically happen at high end restaurants. The decor of the restaurant is very basic and it doesn’t feel like a high end restaurant (no table cloths, no wet wipes to sanitize your hands, etc.). Overall, we would probably give it another chance in the future but it’s definitely not at the top of our list. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $2,000+ Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
