Pretty good. Fluffy basmati rice, not greasy. Tender mutton. Sizeable portion. Intense flavour. Will come back if I’m in the east. My fav? Still Mr. Biryani at Chandler Road. The rice there is better—piping hot, fluffier, more fragrant. Mutton also more tender, if not as sizable as Cahaya’s. Cahaya’s mutton dum biryani costs about $10. Mr. Biryani, $15. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $1–10 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

The seafood menu dishes are authentic with local flavours. Value for money and the staffs were service orientated and friendly. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Recommended dishes: Mutton Briyani, Dalcha, Tandoori Chicken

I ate briyani at Cahaya Timur Briyani House (the outlet at the very end) around 9–10pm, and shortly after reaching home, I experienced severe stomach flu and gastroenteritis symptoms. I started vomiting and had diarrhoea, along with a fever. Unfortunately, my other family members also began vomiting and having diarrhoea that same night. I had it the worst. We ordered 3 Chicken Masala Briyani sets. However, only 2 came with actual Chicken Masala. The third one was just fried chicken with some masala gravy poured over it. When we asked about it, the staff casually said, “Oh, we sold out, so we put masala gravy on the fried chicken.” That is completely unacceptable. If the Chicken Masala was sold out, we should have been informed first — not served a substitute without our knowledge or consent. Simply pouring masala gravy over fried chicken is not the same dish. Given what happened to my family and me, and the way the substitution was handled, I genuinely do not understand the hype around this place. There are many other briyani restaurants that serve better quality food and, most importantly, did not make us sick. Not recommended. Will not be returning. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
