Food was great! Banchan was really solid, every side dish was good. Hot pot rice - quite unique, never had this before and was pleasantly surprised. Half & half pancake - order this if you have a party of 3 or more, savoury yet sweet! Aged pork jowl and marinated pork collar - the pork collar was really good, pork jowl was as to be expected, also good, but not as fantastic as the collar. Jingsyeong Chicken soup - savoury, flavourful, like chicken soup on steroids, really the standout dish to us. Overall 9.5/10, staff also did the cooking and service was exceptional. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–60 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

As a 된장찌개 lover, I’d give Cheongdamchae’s bean paste stew a solid 5/5. The soup is thick and rich, just the way I like it, with a deep bean flavour instead of tasting like a bowl of salty water (which I unfortunately got at another place before). It also comes with a generous amount of sliced beef, tofu, and shiitake mushrooms. I was especially pleased to find plenty of soft, floury potatoes that had absorbed all the flavour of the stew. The side dishes were delicious as well — fresh, well-balanced, and not overly salty, sweet, or sour. Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Cheongdamchae Donkey and I arrived at approximately 3:30 PM, having cycled a considerable distance from our home in Punggol. After discovering that almost every other establishment along the street had closed for their afternoon break, we were immensely relieved to find this restaurant open. The hospitality initially appeared outstanding the staff were incredibly accommodating, graciously allowing us to store our bicycles inside the premises, a gesture that provided much needed peace of mind. The quality of the cuisine was truly impressive. The banchan (side dishes) were meticulously prepared and noticeably superior in quality to those at neighbouring Korean establishments. We opted for the Army Hot Pot, which perfectly satisfied my craving for Maggie Mee, particularly with the complimentary Ramyeon Sari provided. A particular standout was the Jumek Rice unlike the versions served elsewhere, it contained Korean pickles that added a delightful crunch and depth of flavour. Donkey was full of praise for the rice throughout the meal and we finished every morsel. However, despite the excellent food, we have rated this experience 4 stars due to two significant factors. Firstly, we had intended to enjoy a traditional Korean BBQ but we found the pricing structure to be somewhat prohibitive for a party of two. The combo sets start at approximately $148, which seems tailored for larger groups of three or more, making it an unsuitable price point for a couple’s lunch. Secondly, the environmental comfort was significantly compromised. On several occasions, I had to physically stand up from our meal to close the front door. I initially assumed it was being left open by departing patrons, only to witness the staff intentionally opening it themselves. Upon enquiry, they explained that the strong air conditioning was blowing against the ‘Open’ signage, causing it to clatter against the glass door. Their solution was to leave the door open, allowing the cooled air to escape into the afternoon heat and leaving the interior uncomfortably warm at times while we were having our hotpot. It was disappointing to see the staff prioritise the stability of a sign over the comfort of their diners. In summary: the food is exceptional and the restaurant is commendable for its cyclist friendly attitude, but the BBQ pricing and the lapse in maintaining a cool dining environment prevented what would otherwise have been a perfect five star experience.
