I appreciate Dian Xiao Er's variety of offerings on their menu, which caters to different palates in the family. In addition to two bowls of rice, we ordered the roast duck; hotplate tofu; lotus roots, sweet pea, water chestnut with macademia nuts and gingko; signature wheatgrass tofu; and yi-fu noodles for sharing (see the pictures below). The staff were friendly and accommodating when we asked them to make the wheatgrass tofu and yi-fu noodles vegetarian. The meal was delicious and the portions were just right for a group of five. The NEX outlet is larger and more spacious than it might appear from the outside. We were seated at a round table near the window, and the atmosphere was chill and conducive for talking. We’ve usually had good dining experiences at this restaurant, which is why we decided to order delivery today. Unfortunately, the set meal was a huge disappointment. We ordered the set for 3 pax, but none of us felt full afterwards. There were 5 dishes in total, yet every portion was surprisingly small. The duck, in particular, was only a quarter portion, for three people?! I only took 2 pieces so the rest of my family could have more. The fried crispy pork was even more disappointing, as it was mostly fats coated in flour rather than actual meat. Altogether, the meal came to around $160 including delivery fees, which felt extremely poor value for what we received. Ironically, ordering 5 small à la carte dishes separately would probably have cost only around $130. Price per person: $100+ Food: 2

Had a very satisfying dining experience at Dian Xiao Er (NEX) recently. The restaurant has a warm, rustic Chinese village-style ambience that makes it comfortable for family meals and gatherings. Their signature herbal roast duck is definitely the highlight — fragrant, tender, and well-marinated with a nice balance of herbs without being overpowering. The skin was slightly crisp and the meat remained juicy. Besides the duck, the Chicken cooked with Marmite is highly recommended — rich, slightly sweet and savoury with a nice caramelised glaze that makes it very addictive. The Mongolian Pork Rib is another standout dish, tender and flavourful with a well-balanced sauce that goes perfectly with rice. Service was attentive and efficient even during busy hours. Staff were polite and responsive, which made the experience more pleasant. Overall, a reliable choice for Chinese comfort food in NEX.
