Er Gu Tang Shui used to be an iconic Dessert Store in Chinatown night market back in the 50s. Chinatown’s night market ended on 30 September 1983 and the stalls were relocated to Chinatown complex market. “Er Gu Tang Shui” was one of the pioneers to follow the relocation to the Chinatown complex. It's not my usual to order green bean soup from a dessert stall as this bowl of dessert is easily cooked at home. I was curious about the ingredient "Chou Cao" and decided to give this a try. The substance was said to cool down the body system. Green bean soup was neither sweet nor too bland to taste. The style of their dessert was mild sweet I realised. Gingko Nut Barley was cooked to soften with mini pieces of beancurd skin. The combination is common but the taste was bland as I prefer a stronger taste. Almond paste was smooth and if you are an almond lover, you will love this. We have added on some glutinous rice balls in the paste at an additional cost too. I guess everyone was talking about Er Gu's black sesame paste. I will be very keen to try it on a return trip.
