Absolutely disgusted and appalled by the blatant, unmasked racism we faced at Gelate today, June 28th, targeting only foreign non-Thai patrons from a staff member wearing a black hijab with the name tag clearly marked BAH. This establishment has zero respect for international customers and runs its service based purely on nationality prejudice. Before we even stepped foot inside the venue, I directly and clearly asked the staff whether there was any minimum spend requirement to use the seating area. She explicitly told us there was NO minimum spend whatsoever. To be polite and support the shop anyway, we voluntarily purchased two drinks just to sit and relax for a short while—we were fully complying with what we were told was the only rule. Barely 10 minutes after we sat down, this same staff member BAH leaned in to whisper secretly into another employee’s ear, then marched straight over only to our table. She demanded we leave the premises immediately, or fork out an outrageous extra 800 baht on top of the drinks we’d already paid for, claiming the downstairs event meant our seats had an event view and required this sudden extra fee. The most infuriating and undeniably racist part? Every single local Thai customer seated around us was left completely untouched, never approached, never told to leave, never pressured to pay a single extra baht. Only us, the non-local, non-Thai foreigners, were singled out and harassed with this sudden, made-up charge and forced eviction out of nowhere. This is not a misunderstanding or a last-minute policy change. This is targeted racial discrimination plain and simple. Staff member BAH intentionally lied about the seating terms upfront, waited a short time, then specifically picked out foreign guests to extort extra money or kick us out while ignoring all local patrons entirely. I will never set foot in this place again, and I strongly warn every tourist and international visitor to avoid Gelate at all costs. You will be lied to, targeted based on where you’re from, and treated as a cash grab target rather than a paying customer. Shameful, unprofessional, and utterly unacceptable behaviour from this business and this discriminatory staff member.
