I've fished all over Thailand and was beginning to think it was all about catching monsters. Then I happened across this wonderful venue. There are two lakes, one specimen and a "Species". Now, after catching huge fish at Bungsamran in Bangkok and elsewhere, I thought it a good idea to catch some different species. I'm so glad I chose the species lake, as on arrival I met the custodian and fishing guru..... Liam. The guy lives and breathes this fishery, his knowledge and fishing nous is without doubt the best I've ever seen. Add to that, his love of nature and many topics inbetween, the whole day was brilliant. We tried all techniques to tempt the fish to bite, with Liam explaining the habits of the many varieties that live in it's waters. I'd never caught a Julliens Carp before and this fish is an amazing fighter, like a barbel on protein shakes and steroids!! There's a wonderful head of Siamese Carp with an attitude like a rampaging bull, Redtail Cats and Java Barbs, along with many others were caught making for a wonderful day. The health of the fish caught was apparent, everyone looked in pristine condition, with terrific colour and strength. I could go on forever about the day, it was that good. Lunch was taken in the beautifully appointed restaurant overlooking the specimen lake. The service was the usual very high Thai standard, welcoming and very friendly. The range of food and drink superb and the meal was delicious, all washed down with an ice cold Leo. The species lake is called Mountain View and if you want to fish it, make sure you ask for Liam, the price for fishing the lake is very reasonable and it made for my greatest ever day fishing in Thailand and that even beats the magnificent Bungsamran. One final touch that made the day even more memorable was my taxi to and from..... the delightful Nuni, she is the epitome of Thai people, elegant, friendly, very polite and a really good driver.
