If you’re exploring Dongdaemun and craving something truly memorable, Haepo should be high on your list. From the very first bite, this place impresses. The opening dish—the mussel soup—was an absolute wow. It tasted like a pure essence of the ocean: clean, natural, and refreshingly free from any overpowering additives. A perfect way to start the meal. Then came the star of the show: the smoked pork BBQ. Another wow moment. The pork was beautifully marinated, tender, and finished with a rich, smoky aftertaste that lingered just right without being overwhelming. What really elevated the experience was how everything came together. Pairing the pork with the variety of sides—fresh perilla leaves, crisp onion salad, and light cabbage salad—created a balance of flavors and textures that kept every bite interesting. A special shoutout to Pong-gyu, who was incredibly friendly and kind, guiding us on the best way to enjoy the smoked pork with the sides. That personal touch made a big difference. And don’t leave without trying the aged kimchi fried rice—it’s seriously the bomb. When combined with the smoked pork and wrapped in lettuce, it turns into a layered, harmonious bite that feels both comforting and sophisticated.
