Retro, gentle homely vibes. Missing the higher stars with watery mild nasi lemak sambal. Very nice cabbage and ikan bills petai. Coffee is great.

An old friend brought me to Khong Guan Restaurant, a truly old-school neighbourhood coffee shop that feels like a time capsule from another era. The moment you step in, you’re greeted by a sense of nostalgia — from the simple furnishings to the unpretentious atmosphere that immediately brings you back to childhood days when coffee shops were all about comfort and familiarity. The coffee here tastes exactly how old-school kopi should taste — robust, aromatic, and comforting, without any modern twists. We also ordered the toast, which charmingly came in a heart shape. Simple as it sounds, it added a warm, personal touch to the experience. The toast was crisp on the outside, soft inside, and paired perfectly with the coffee. But honestly, the real draw isn’t just the food or drinks — it’s the vibe. Sitting there, watching regulars come and go, hearing casual chatter, and soaking in the unpolished authenticity made the visit special. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you’re reminded of how coffee shops used to be.
