We stopped by here without knowing we were here two years ago. They have excellent udons and we added a tonkatsu for 5k won. It’s a small charming place. Four of us ate for around ₩30K. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₩1–10,000 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

Kotohira Udon is one of those places that doesn’t need to say much — simple setup, tight menu, and a clear focus on getting the fundamentals right. It leans more functional than aesthetic, but that works in its favour. You come here to eat, not to linger. The kitchen feels disciplined, and the flow is efficient — very much in line with what you’d expect from a proper udon spot rather than a dressed-up café version. The mushroom udon is the standout if you want something a bit more layered without going heavy. Deep, earthy broth with that clean umami profile, and the mushrooms actually carry weight rather than just being garnish. The noodles have good bite — not overly soft, not chewy for the sake of it — just balanced. On the side, the katsu pork rice does exactly what it should: crisp exterior, juicy centre, and a straightforward sauce that ties it together without drowning it. It’s a heavier counterpoint to the udon, which makes the combination work. Net-net, this is comfort food executed with restraint — nothing flashy, just a couple of dishes done properly enough that you don’t question the simplicity. Great spot in Hongdae. The shrimp udon was the highlight—rich, flavorful broth with crispy, light tempura that wasn’t oily. Portion size was solid and filling on its own. We also tried the shrimp tempura and pork cutlet. Tempura stayed light and crunchy, and while the pork cutlet is a good option, this place is clearly known for its udon. Side salad was fresh with a yuzu citrus dressing that balanced everything well. Service was excellent—welcoming, quick, and very attentive without being overbearing. Would definitely come back.
