Had a wonderful dining experience at Kumar Mess! The fish meals were absolutely delicious and tasted just like authentic Madurai-style food from India. Every dish was flavourful, homely, and cooked to perfection. The fish curry, side dishes, and fried fish were especially outstanding. A special mention to Mr. Selvam, who was incredibly kind, generous, and attentive in serving us. His warm hospitality made the experience even more enjoyable and welcoming. The portions were generous, our stomachs were full, and most importantly, our hearts were happy too. The food brought back memories of traditional South Indian home-cooked meals. We enjoyed it so much that we came back again this week to bring our mum along as well! Happy faces, happy hearts, and happy stomachs. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Madurai-style fish meals and genuine hospitality in Singapore! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Kumar Mess at Upper Dickson Road has a nice, comfortable ambience and the staff are attentive with good service. Unfortunately, the food portions don’t offer good value for money. I ordered chicken soup for $4.90, but it came with a tiny piece of chicken spare part with hardly any meat, and the soup itself was very oily. The fish meal was disappointing too — most of the side dishes were just gravy with nothing inside. There were only 3 veg items, and the papad wasn’t even crunchy. Decent service and atmosphere, but the food quality and portions need improvement. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20

If you are craving incredible South Indian flavors in Singapore, Kumar Mess is an absolute gem. I recently tried their Fish Thali Meal and the Chicken Briyani, and I was thoroughly impressed! The Fish Thali offered a variety of authentic, perfectly spiced sides that paired beautifully with the rice. The Chicken Briyani was flavorful and cooked to perfection, not overly greasy. Come hungry, because the portions are generous. You definitely get value for your money. The flavors are spot-on and deeply satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back for more.
