This morning, I purposely made my way to there to buy their tiramisu to celebrate my sister’s birthday at home. When my Pioneer Generation father and I arrived at the door to the café, it was 11.35am. The door was unlocked but the “closed” sign was displayed. Inside, were two young female staff members behind the counter. They were obviously engaged in light-hearted conversation. The showcase was fully stocked and everything seemed in readiness for business. I gestured to ask if we could enter but one of the girls indicated by a showing of her fingers that they would only open at noon which was less than half an hour away.
They could see that we would not have wandered into that isolated corridor by accident, and that my father was also winded from the climb up the steep flight of stairs but neither of them took the trouble to come out from behind the counter to open the door to ask what I wanted despite the fact that I had been in the process of opening the door. Did they expect us to go away and go back later? Or maybe we were to stand like beggars outside the door? My father is not that young and the corridor is not the most conducive place to loiter in. The least they could have done was perhaps offer him a seat.
I can understand it might pose some, though I cannot think what, problem to them to allow us in before noon, if we were intending to dine at the café. However, I could have bought the cake and left within ten minutes, and they would have made an easy sale of at least $30.00 with no inconvenience to themselves but they chose instead to continue with their idle gossip and lose that sale and whatever other business I might give the cafe in the future because of their dismal customer service. I am so disgusted by this arrogance and lack of hospitality of this F&B outlet. I am writing to tell the owners that they may have a good product but their deplorable customer service will prove to be the café’s downfall.
