Japan walked into an Italian kitchen and nobody stopped it. Thankfully. The Seafood Mentaiko Pizza at Lazy Lizard is the kind of dish that makes you question every ordinary pizza you have ever eaten and feel mildly cheated by all of them. Mentaiko, for the uninitiated, is Japanese spicy pollock roe: briny, umami-loaded, with a gentle heat that builds slowly and refuses to leave. Whoever decided to put it on a pizza base with seafood either had a moment of quiet genius or stumbled into something extraordinary and had the good sense to keep it on the menu. At $25.80 you are getting one of the most interesting flavour combinations in the city for the price of a forgettable pasta somewhere else. The choice of normal or herb base matters here. Go herb. The aromatics work underneath the richness of the mentaiko the way a good wine pairing works: you notice the food more, not less. The rest of the Lazy Lizard menu is equally unafraid. Bulgogi Iberico Pork. Tikka Masala Chicken. A Squid Ink Seafood Risotto with prawn, lala and crab meat that has absolutely no business being on the same menu as a pizza and yet fits perfectly. This is a kitchen that has decided fusion is not a dirty word and is proving it one plate at a time. Come hungry. Come curious. Order the Seafood Mentaiko Pizza. Thank me later. The service at Lazy Lizard Promenade @ Pilikat was excellent especially with Justin’s service whom is exceptionally attentive and service is superb! We had a big group and was full house but the team has such great teamwork in ensuring their operations run smoothly. The food was portioned well and generous. Kids below 11 eat for free so its really worth the meal and its a family positive environment (able to borrow their toys to keep the little ones busy). I know in many places people write reviews to get some free item. They do give, but when I write its regardless of the free item and I think it is essential to give them the due respect for their service esp in a full house and peak hour period. Thank you. Carbonara pasta -portion just nice -taste just right -not too cheesy Bolognese pasta -generous serving of sauce -taste was great, slightly above average Nice little restaurant nestled in a quiet neighbourhood. Wide selection of food. Suitable for a nice chill when in the neighbourhood.
