WARNING: SCAM & TOTAL HEALTH HAZARD! I had a pathetic experience here today. First, they are SCAMMING people with prices. I ordered Mutton Biryani & Roti Prata for $19 SGD. Then I saw the kitchen reheating frozen, old rice! When confronted, they admitted it wasn't fresh. I changed my order to Nasi Goreng, but they overcharged me by $2 SGD. When I demanded my money back, the counter guy tried to force an unwanted egg on me instead of a refund. Total fraud! The food was terrible. The Nasi Goreng smelled bad, the egg and rice were uncooked, and the chicken chunks were old and yellowish. Worst of all, HYGIENE IS ZERO. The staff was touching their faces and scratching under their armpits while handling food. It made me feel like vomiting . How is a restaurant like this operating in Singapore? BOYCOTT THIS PLACE! Makanan Bollywood Restaurant is the kind of special place everyone wants one in their neighbourhood. It is a family run business, and here are just some preferential treatments you are guaranteed to: they know their regulars and welcome them warmly, they remember your favourite seats and usher you to your spot to make sure you can snuggle in your happy place for as long as you like, they will never chase you away even if it is a full house. As a result, people reciprocate and will check out when a line of customers starts to form. Just to name a few good things going around in this gem of a place. For drinks, we love the calamansi juice, the hot version is ideal when one has a bit of morning sinus. You're alright with the hot kopi and hot teh halia. The hot milo is always generously sweet and thick. For food, we order chicken mee goreng, bee hoon goreng with ikan bilis which is on the rich, savoury side and best for people who are partial to ikan bilis. Occasionally we request for a plate of goreng vegetables to count towards our 5-a-day. The moreish dum nasi briyani comes with a side of curry. I love both their mutton nasi briyani and chicken nasi briyani. The portion is bountiful, it looks like a small hill on a plate. We will turn up at Makanan Bollywood at 11AM-ish for the first batch of tender, juicy protein with perfectly cooked basmati rice. It is heavenly. I am embarrassed to tell you we continue to order a set of prata. The prata is always freshly cooked. Sometimes, one of the gents in the kitchen will cut the prata for you to save you the hassle. They are thoughtful like that. I know some people have a certain fondness of their briyani, kopi, prata etc based on their childhood experience. Overall, this is a great place and I hope you will have an enjoyable time too. Thank you very much to the good family behind Makanan Bollywood Restaurant!
