Disappointed in our experience here. We booked weeks in advance with the notice of one guest having to eat gluten free. We understand that glutenfree in Korea is not easy but the restaurants asks for dietary requirements when you book online. When we arrived at the restaurant they weren’t really sure what contained gluten and what did not. The waiter tried his best but couldn’t really give an overview of what we could eat. The only main dish we could have eaten was sold out for that day. Unfortunately we had to leave the restaurant because of all this. We do understand that glutenfree in Korea is difficult but it would have been courteous of the restaurant to let us know beforehand if they can’t accommodate the dietary requirements. We would have been very understanding and could have made different plans beforehand. Now we were left stranded without a dinner plan which isn’t easy for a celiac.

First, thank you for accommodating my last-minute request. I know the restaurant was fully booked, but I figured an Instagram message wouldn’t hurt—and I’m glad I tried, as I was able to get a table. Second, I commend the food concept, particularly the emphasis on fermentation and healthy options. The sauce tasting was fun, and I personally enjoyed the tangerine one the most. The kombucha was also very refreshing—truly a welcome treat. The starter, however, was a bit underwhelming for me. I ordered the tofu hummus with seaweed chips. The hummus was quite dense and could have been more distinctive if the tangerine flavor were more pronounced. The seaweed chips were slightly oily, though I did like their taste. The five-layered pork belly was a solid 10/10—tender, smoky, and full of flavor. The pork was smoked for four hours, although I personally wished it had a deeper smokiness. I’m not sure if there is a traditional Korean method of smoking meat, but it would have been interesting to see a more traditional approach that aligned even more closely with the restaurant’s concept. The kimchi was outstanding—fermented for six years, which gave the cabbage a subtle sweetness that I really enjoyed. The side dishes were also intriguing, particularly the celery and shiitake. The gondre mushroom rice was just okay and a bit bland for my taste; I had to ask for soy sauce to add more flavor. That said, when paired with the chimichurri sauce, it became much more enjoyable. As for the ambiance, the lighting felt a bit too warm for me, as it affected how the food looked. While I generally like warm lighting, slightly brighter table lighting would help showcase the natural colors of the dishes better. Overall, I was very pleased with Mukjung, especially their service. I would definitely plan to return with friends. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₩100,000+ Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
