Reasonably priced and easy on the pocket, this vegetarian outlet interests you with their wide range of options from bibimbap, stir frys, local delights, burgers with creative use of vegetables and mushrooms. Flavours and taste are on point. I was surlrised to find danggui (angelica sinensis) in their "mutton" curry dish! Tried the Fried Kway Teow, was pretty decent. Prices are slightly on the higher end compared to other food options in SMU, but still affordable. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $1–10

I visited Nature Cafe @ SMU on a Wednesday evening during the school vacation. Apart from the crowd of incoming students (orientation) and outgoing ones (graduation) earlier in the late afternoon, the school grounds around the cafe was quite empty and serene by the time I decided to have dinner there. I ordered a mushroom baked rice ($13.90) and a hibiscus passion yakult ($4.20), and my friend had fish slice noodle soup ($7.50). The latter two items were ready in 5 mins, but the baked rice understandably took 10-15 mins. There three other customers at the cafe, and I thought the wait time was reasonable. I liked the drink, and the soup was delicious (I tried it as well). The baked rice was not too bad. My standards are - different - for baked rice. I tend to like mine very cheesy, so I understandably devoured the top layer of cheese. I found the rice layer a little dry, but it would suit people who enjoy their baked rice layers well-separated. The mock ham was good and soft, and I wished there were more pieces. The mushroom bits were a little tough so I had to work my muscles through them, but they were good nonetheless. The atmosphere, as I have described, was just how I like it: quiet and calm. It suits the fatigued salaryman’s soul, and provided much needed rest at the end of the day. But what really won me over was the service. There was a young man manning the counter. He looked friendly and approachable, and his behaviours confirmed my initial impression. When we had to collect our trays, twice, he went to open the door for us, noticing that it would be inconvenient for us to do so with our hands full. These small actions speak volumes, and kindness has great power to make someone’s day. If you are reading this, thank you! I would visit this restaurant again, perhaps during the next school vacation. I know how busy school cafes can get during the academic term, and it is a happy-sad kind of problem. The kind the movie “Cars” first put in pictures for me at the end of the film. I hope the cafe keeps up the good work.
