Private Club Gem: Authentic, High-Value Ning Bo & Shanghainese Cuisine While the Ning Po Residents Association is an exclusive, members-only clubhouse in Central, the dining room itself feels surprisingly accessible, high-value, and comfortably nostalgic. I am not a member myself, but I was fortunate enough to dine here as a guest under my friend’s registration. Our meal was an exceptionally well-balanced spread blending distinct textures, deep savory profiles, and a sweet-and-sour anchor: Deep-fried Yellow Fish with Sweet and Sour Sauce: The clear centerpiece. Meticulously scored, deep-fried to an intense crisp, and finished with a glossy, vibrant sweet-and-sour glaze and toasted pine nuts. Pancake with Sesame and Spring Onions: Truly the best in town. This style is dense, multi-layered, and flaky, offering an earthy, toasted sesame aroma with a savory, aromatic onion bite. Shanghai-style Steamed Pork Buns: Translucent, pleated wrappers holding a seasoned pork sphere and a pocket of hot, gelatin-rich broth. A delicate, steaming soup element. Pan-fried Pork Dumplings: Pan-fried in a shallow well. The bottoms develop a deeply golden, intensely crunchy lace crust while keeping the upper wrapper soft and chewy. Local Guide Tips for Visitors: Access: Strictly members-only for booking, but members can bring non-member guests. Vibe: Old-school, nostalgic, and traditional. It strips away the overly corporate vibe of newer Central dining clubs. Value: Remarkably reasonable pricing and excellent portions for a private club in this district.
