Relax Bar & Restaurant Chong Mon was easily the best dinner we’ve had in Thailand. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared, with none of the heaviness or oversalted flavors we’ve had at some big hotels. We started with the Tom Kha coconut soup with chicken, which was outstanding. The flavors were so well balanced and strong – rich coconut, bright herbs, and just the right acidity – and it was not salty at all. It felt like real home-style cooking. We also had the piping hot, freshly prepared spring rolls, which were crisp and light, not greasy, and perfect for sharing. The Pad See Ew with chicken was cooked perfectly: the noodles were tender and almost melted in your mouth, and the seasoning was spot on. The papaya salad was super fresh and dressed perfectly – bright, crunchy, and refreshing alongside the warm dishes. To finish, we had rum with Coke Zero that the owner mixed by hand, and it turned out to be a great little aperitif to round out the meal. The owner, Dillon/Dylon (apologies if we’re spelling that wrong), was incredibly warm and welcoming, and you can really feel how much care she puts into her food and her guests. The whole meal came to only $25, which feels unbelievable for this level of quality and hospitality. We would recommend this place to anyone staying in Choeng Mon – it’s a true gem and our favorite meal in Thailand so far.
