Sabaijai (Original) in Ekkamai is one of my absolute favorite Isaan and Thai restaurants in Bangkok, and I've been a loyal regular for years. The gai yang (grilled chicken) here is absolutely legendary — perfectly marinated with lemongrass and garlic, charcoal-grilled to juicy, smoky perfection, and served with sticky rice and a brilliant nam jim jaew dipping sauce. It's hands down the best grilled chicken in the area. The stir-fried crab with curry powder is another must-order, rich and aromatic with generous chunks of fresh crab. Don't be fooled by the exterior — inside, the restaurant is surprisingly spacious with both open-air and air-conditioned sections. The menu is extensive, covering all the Isaan classics including papaya salad, larb, roasted chicken, and a wide variety of delicious stir-fries and curries. The green curry and stir-fried dishes are consistently excellent. The prawns steamed with glass noodles are always beautifully fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere is lively and authentic — this is where locals and knowledgeable food enthusiasts come to eat. It gets busy for good reason. The service is efficient even during peak hours. For genuine Isaan-Thai cuisine at great value in Ekkamai, Sabaijai (Original) is an absolute institution. Highly recommended! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
