Our family went for the weekend lunch at The Optimist. Due to some system error on Open Rice I wasn’t able to book online through Open Rice. Therefore, I called the restaurant to make the reservation. The weekend lunch has two sessions. The first session starts at 11:30 am. The second session starts at 1:30 pm. We booked for the 1:30 pm session. Once I booked through the phone I received an email confirmation from The Optimist for my booking. I was able to add on my special requests. You have more space to type the special request on this email confirmation from Optimist than on Open Rice. The Optimist restaurant has 3 floors in the ground floor, 1st floor and the 2nd floor. When I booked I asked for the 2nd floor. We arrived on time. At the entrance I told the staff my booking. She told me that the table is ready and we walked up to the second floor. We asked for a sofa seat on the email booking but wasn’t given a sofa seat, which was disappointing. The weekend lunch is like a semi buffet. It comes with an extensive appettiser buffet. Each of the three floors has the extensive appettiser buffet to serve customers on each floor. You just need to choose your main course. Depending on what main course you choose the price would be different. There are selection for HKD 178 (Wild Mushroom Rice or Roasted Chicken), HKD 218 (Confit Duck Leg or Barramundi A La Plancha or Juicy Seafood Rice (2 people)), HKD 268 (Pork Txuleta (300 g) or Oxtail Juicy Rice or Argentinian Striploin (200 g)). For the main course we chose to have the Wild Mushroom Rice, Barramundi A La Plancha, Oxtail Juicy Rice, Argentinian Striploin. We find that the portion of the main course is not that big because you fill your stomach with the extensive appettiser buffet. But I liked the taste of my Argentinian Striploin (200 g). We added three basque style cheesecakes, one churros bites and three coffee for the desert. The taste of the desert we ordered was nothing special. Overall, the service was a bit slow in that we had to raise our hands to get attention of the staff. As there were only one waiter with white shirt and two managers in blue suites. But the main course came out at the appropriate times. The main sell here is the appettiser buffet and not the main course as the portion of the main course is small. Overall provides value compared to what is on offer compared to the price. Therefore, a four rating. Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $250–300
